About Pressley Ridge Portugal

Pressley Ridge has been in Portugal for almost 20 years. The program became a forman NGO in 2004. Our work contributes to the reform and improvement of services and programs for children, youth and their families. We work with different Portuguese government and non-governmental organizations to provide services to members of our target population

Past Activities

  • A post-graduate and a master's degree course on psychosocial intervention with children, youth and families. The first course was in partnership with the University Lusófona from 1997 to 1999. The second was in partnership with the Institute of Child Studies of the University of Minho, 2004.
  • Training programs in several areas: behavior management techniques; child development; conflict and crisis intervention; life skills; experiential education and program evaluation. We've provided training to several institutions: Instituto de Reinserção Social - IRS; Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa - SCML; Prosalis; Associação de Profissionais de Serviço Social; Cercimor; Ajuda de Berço; Junta de Freguesia da Damaia; Instituto da Droga e da Toxicodependência - IDT; Associação CrescerSer; Centro Paroquial S. Vicente de Paulo; Centros de Formação do Ministério da Educação em Alfragide/Amadora, Loures, Olivais e Entroncamento.
  • Clinical supervision (social workers; community based teams of SCML).
  • Participation of Portuguese professionals in PICFI (Pittsburgh International Children and Families Institute), USA (from 1995 to 2004).
  • Presentations at conferences in Portugal and in other countries.
  • Organization of the World Conference on Children's Services Reform - Sustaining Innovative change (October 1999, Lisbon) and the International Conference on Intervention with children, youth and families in partnership with the Institute of Child Studies of the University of Minho (February 2007, Braga).
  • Development of intervention programs for children and youth at risk and their families: psychosocial intervention for at risk kids of the Centro Paroquial S. Vicente de Paulo do Bairro da Serafina, Lisboa (2000/2001)
  • Coordination of two after school programs for 40 at risk kids in partnership with the NGO Prosalis (2000/2003)
  • Center Paths - adventure, environmental and experiential education program for at risk kids in partnership with the Municipality of Vila de Rei and the Centro Paroquial S. Vicente de Paulo do Bairro da Serafina, Lisboa (2001)
  • Alternative Paths Program - life skills program for at risk african- portuguese kids, in partnership with the Municipality of Damaia (2004 to present).
