Pressley Ridge School for the Deaf
Pressley Ridge School for the Deaf offers a year-round educational program and a year-round, 24-hour, 7-days-per-week supervised residential program for deaf youth. The goal of this program is to provide the most integrated and least restrictive services to youth who are experiencing short- or long-term mental health issues while strengthen their families. Our program provides culturally competent educational and mental health services by keeping youth connected to the Deaf community, deaf peers, and deaf role models.
Services
- Teachers are certified in Deaf or Special Education, with experience serving deaf youth with social and emotional issues
- Mental Health Specialists assit teachers in self-contained Special Education Deaf classrooms
- Community-Based Specialists develop and implement transition aspects of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Family Liaison Specialists provide the link between youth and their family/community
- Referrals for individual/group therapy or specialized therapy
- Psychiatric evaluations
- Medication monitoring and medical services
- Group home residence for students staffed by Residential Supervisors, Teacher/Counselors & Houseparents
Who Do We Serve?
- Youth ages 6 to 21
- Youth diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing
- Youth experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties within the classrom, home and/or community
- Able to serve students with IQ above 70, IQ below 70 with special accomodations, as well as youth diagnosed with Mental Retardation or developmentally disabled
Admission Process
- School districts can make a referral by contacting Pressely Ridge Central Admissions at 1-877-770-0820
- PR School for the Deaf staff will interview the child, their family, as well as the staff currently working with the child
- Approval must be obtained from the PA Department of Education for deaf residential and classroom services
