Dr. Nicholas J. Long Honored by Pressley Ridge

September 2009 - Dr. Nicholas J. Long, one of the nation's foremost leaders in the field of re-educating troubled children, was honored with the Annual Achievement for Outstanding Service to Children and Youth Award at the 2009 Pressley Ridge Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet in Pittsburgh on September 21, 2009.

Dr. Long's contributions to the field are legion. In a career spanning six decades, he's created and directed several model psycho-educational treatment programs, written seven texts and well over one hundred articles on working with troubled young people, and developed a dozen video series on the subject. In addition he served on the faculty of several institutions of higher learning including American University in Washington, DC and has edited or co-edited a number of professional journals including the acclaimed Reclaiming Children and Youth. While still the president of the Life Space Crisis Institute, Dr. Long is enjoying his retirement years with his wife and frequent writing partner, Jody, on their farm in Hagerstown, Maryland.

In his acceptance of the award, Dr. Long expressed fond memories of his work with children across the country and his proud association with Pressley Ridge. He noted that Pressley Ridge is not only one of the first but also one of the strongest of the 22 training sites for LSCI (Life Space Crisis Intervention) in the world.
