Kenia began receiving treatment foster care services from Pressley Ridge when she was 14 years old. Her complex past included being oppositional, repeatedly running away, skipping school, and using drugs and alcohol. Kenia has a history of depression, sometimes leading to suicidal behavior. She has also been sexually active, and has had a number of partners. Kenia's relationship with her biological parents has been difficult. Her parents abuse alcohol and drugs, and sometimes neglected her in the past. Kenia has had several foster home placements in the past couple of years.
After a year of services, Kenia was discharged. At follow-up, Kenia was living in a supervised independent living setting; she reported liking it there, and was learning skills that she hoped would allow her to live independently. She has been attending high school full-time in a regular classroom, and reported achieving good grades. Kenia reported that she was not using drugs or alcohol. She described her experience with her treatment foster care parents as very positive. Kenia said her treatment foster parents were caring, positive people who made a difference in her life.
