Life Space Crisis Intervention
Pressley Ridge is an international training site for Life Space Crisis Intervention. L.S.C.I. is a powerful psycho-educational tool that helps the helper design interventions and insights with the following Youth who display these types of self defeating patterns of behavior.
- Displaced Anger:
Youth who act out stress onto unsuspecting helpers, sparking explosive and endless power struggles. - Errors in Personal Perceptions:
Youth who act out stress because they are only capable of “seeing” the event from their distorted perspective. - Limited Social Skills:
Youth who commit social embarrassment to themselves and others. They have the right intentions and motivation but lack the necessary social skills to have successful relationships. - Justifying Harmful Behavior:
Youth who are purposely aggressive and who seem to enjoy and rationalize pain to others. - Impulse Control and Guilt:
Youth who are burdened with inadequacy and shame and become masterful at creating ways to get themselves punished by those in authority. - Vulnerability to Peers:
Youth who manipulate other peers or Youth who are manipulated by these false friendships.
Life Space Crisis Intervention is a verbal non-physical intervention training that empowers professionals to intervene effectively with children and youth. L.S.C.I. teaches professionals the therapeutic talking strategies they need to help children who are engaged in self-defeating patterns, and when intervening with Youth who are displaying aggressive or out of control behaviors.
The Certified L.S.C.I. Senior Training Staff of Pressley Ridge offer the following course options:
- One-day Introduction to L.S.C.I.:
Crisis Prevention and De-Escalation. This course teaches the basic skills of L.S.C.I., including the six most common patterns of self-defeating behavior, the conflict cycle, and effective interviewing skills. - Five-day Certification Course:
This comprehensive course teaches foundational skills, six-step interviewing process, listening and decoding skills, how to correct perceptual and thinking error by diagnosing and choosing one of six reclaiming interventions. This training is highly interactive using lecture, video, practice, skill demonstration and assigned readings. Certificates are awarded to participants who successfully complete the course. Graduate credits in Psychology or Special Education are available from Augustana College.
This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Provider #886487352) for thirty (30) Continuing Education Contact Hours.
This program has also been approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors NBCC Approval #SP-1414.
- L.S.C.I. Refresher Course:
This course is designed for those who have successfully completed the full L.S.C.I. Certification Course and have been using L.S.C.I. for at least six months. It provides a workshop setting in which professionals can review, practice and sharpen their skills for the six reclaiming interventions, and the unique outcome goals for each one.
These course selections are perfect for teachers, administrators, social workers, counselors, psychologists, residential care staff, group home workers, and any professionals who have regular encounters with challenging youth.
