Jenny Johns is the paramount embodiment of what a Pressley Ridge employee should be. Jenny goes above and beyond the call of duty for each family she serves. Jenny’s heart and passion is not in her work, but in the families she serves. Jenny’s self-sacrificing nature often puts her families’ needs above her own without a second thought or hesitation because she knows “if not her, then who?” For example, Jenny is providing FBMH services to a youth who is “lost” within the system. Since the day she opened the case, this youth was removed from three foster care homes in an eight week period. The first foster family was the youth’s only connection to his immediate family, placed in a home with his half-brother and half-brother’s natural father. Sadly, both rejected the youth causing a disruption in the placement. Jenny met with this youth almost daily to prepare him for another placement. In some ways, Jenny became this young man’s most consistent and only support throughout treatment. She made every effort to meet each foster family, new school, new MH services, and new CYS worker, with and without the youth to ensure a smooth transition. Unfortunately, each effort was heartbreaking and hurtful leaving this child alone, no caregiver, except for Jenny. For every exhausting attempt and disappointment, Jenny never gave up. Jenny’s motivation to serve rejuvenated as she planned and strategized eventually leading to a refreshed sense of hope. Jenny is now preparing this youth for a fourth placement, hopefully his last. As the youth’s parent’s rights are being terminated, he will transition to an out of county home preparing for possible adoption. As I am typing this, Jenny is currently on the phone researching supportive services in the adoptive county to offer Case Management, Mental Health supports, and Post Adoptive assistance to her youth and the pre-adoptive family.
Jenny’s demonstrates daily that trust is essential and that time is an ally. We are fortunate to have Jenny as a dedicated family worker in the Beaver County Family Based Program.
