Just as ceremony and ritual gives order to our youth, John Lilley gives order to the programs residing at Stayton Street, including the Allegheny County Treatment Foster Care and Adoption Services, Family Based, and Service Coordination front line staff that he interacts with each day.
After 27 years and counting as a Pressley Ridge employee, it would be expected that John’s competencies would make a difference and they do. But it is more than being competent; it is his positive attitude, team approach and personal touch that makes him deserving of this award. In each interaction with staff, John takes the opportunity to connect personally and go beyond getting the task accomplished. Our staff always feel as though they have been well taken care of after an interaction with John, and thusly they are more equipped to go out and do Whatever It Takes with the children and families we serve. John ensures that all of the little details that go into building and program operations are attended to, makes himself available to staff, and never appears unapproachable. Whether it is dealing with building maintenance, a computer glitch, or liaisoning with other support staff, John’s competence shines through and he never lets the building down!
When Treatment Parents comment on the strengths of the Treatment Foster Care program, John Lilley’s name often comes up. John deals with many sensitive issues and our parents love talking with John. In one conversation with John, parents go away feeling valued and respected. In this respect, John emulates the value that Relationships are Paramount on a daily basis. John realizes that the Treatment Foster Care and Community Based programs reach beyond the walls of our offices to other programs, supports departments and into the homes of the children and families we serve. John ensures that each staff person, child and family has what they need to succeed each day. John frequently puts his work on hold to run out to pick up a bus pass for a youth to get to school or work. He often picks up gift cards on a minutes notice to ensure new shelter youth have clothes and basic necessities as they enter the program. John always focuses on the care of our kids and puts his office managerial duties behind the true meaning of our work. He truly understands the demands on each person within Pressley Ridge and respects the fact that his duties are just one part of what needs accomplished in a day.
John is valued as an employee and member of the teams at the Stayton Street offices – but more over he is valued as a part of the larger organization and truly encompasses the ReED values it takes to be a Pressley Ridge employee.
