Spotlight: Mindy Workman

Mindy Workman

It is difficult to express all of the ways that Mindy Workman represents the Spirit of Re-ED and Pressley Ridge Values. Mindy Workman has been with Pressley Ridge for 27 years and in these years she has provided countless examples Pressley Ridge values and Re-ED principles in action. She started at the Ohiopyle Program at age 17. After working with the Ohiopyle program for eight years, she moved to what is now known as the Southwest Counties office in Uniontown to become its first office manager. In her capacity as the office manager, Mindy has played a role in the beginnings of Pressley Ridge’s Family Based Services, Family Preservation Services and Treatment Foster Care in Southwestern Pennsylvania. It is because of Mindy’s vast experience that she has become a resource for other managers in the program and she has been called upon to help train others. In this way, Mindy has been a crucial part in helping Pressley Ridge develop and thrive.

All of us in the Uniontown Office rely on Mindy daily. Typically she is the first one to the office, and often she is the last to leave. The Uniontown office houses the three different programs Mindy helped to start. As the Manager of the office, Mindy has become an expert in all three programs. It is frequent that Mindy is sought out to provide an answer to some sort of question about program workings or regulation. If Mindy does not know the answer, she will know where to find it.

Mindy always brings a positive attitude and sense of humor to the office. It is frequent that Mindy will need track down some piece of paperwork or set up some sort of appointment. Mindy always approaches these tasks in ways that teach and support those she works with. Those who work with her are often driven to raise the bar on their organizational skills in an attempt to follow Mindy’s example. In all of her interactions Mindy never loses sight of how kindness and laughter make hard work easier to do.

Mindy goes above and beyond her job’s description. The Treatment Foster Care program had a young lady graduate from the program this last summer. This girl could be a true challenge for the adults that she worked with, and she had difficulty forming relationships with others. When this girl was asked about her favorite moments in the Program, she did not hesitate to talk about the one time that Mindy went with her on an outing at the park. Following this outing, this girl would look forward to trips to the office so that she could see and talk with Mindy and Mindy would take time out of her busy day to spend time with her.

Countless other youth have had similar experiences with Mindy over her years with Pressley Ridge. In fact, all of our children have come to find that the office is a friendly place. This is because it is likely that the first person to greet them will be Mindy and it will be Mindy who will find some words to speak to the child that will make them feel at ease. If all else fails, it will be Mindy who will know where the good candy is kept.

It is for all of these reasons and countless more that were not mentioned, that we nominate Mindy Workman for the honor of TC of the Month. Mindy is a fantastic asset to the people she works with and does not seek out recognition for all that she does. It is likely that Mindy will continue to provide tremendous contributions to Pressley Ridge for many years to come.
