Success Story: Heather

All Children Need a Caring Adult in Their Life

Disrespectful, Defiant, Destructive, these are the words used to describe Heather when she came to Pressley Ridge for help due to her problematic behaviors. Heather had a history of abuse, failed placements and a variety of mental health diagnoses, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, anxiety, mood disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. She dealt with her feelings by acting out physically and verbally toward others which only caused more difficulties for her.

Heather’s staff at Pressley Ridge was committed to building a trusting relationship with her in order to help her learn healthy ways of dealing with her feelings. The process wasn’t always easy or comfortable, however with patience and persistence, Heather flourished.

Less than a year after her arrival at Pressley Ridge, Heather graduated high school and channeled her strong will and no-nonsense attitude into achieving her educational goals. She is now attending a college and has a maintained a strong relationship with her foster family.
