Many of the youth served by Pressley Ridge struggle with the funds and appropriate social and emotional skills to be able to attend traditional summer camps. Camp Pressley allows kids ages 6-12 in the Cincinnati area to have a fun and therapeutic camp experience, while also giving at-risk teens the opportunity to be employed as counselors. In its first year, Camp Pressley hosted 26 campers and employed four teenage counselors. In 2018, 16 counselors oversaw 45 campers.
At Camp Pressley, both campers and counselors are working on the development of social, emotional and problem solving skills. Campers enjoy physical activities engaging their brains and bodies for a complete learning experience, set in the beautiful Winton Woods Metro Park. They can spend time at the harbor to fish, splash in a water play area, play games with friends and make crafts. Many campers experience firsts, such as the first time fishing, first time at camp and for our teens, their first job. There is no cost for children to attend Camp Pressley, and unlike many other summer camps, we work with the children to ensure that their experience is a success. At the end of the week, camp closes with a pizza party and awards ceremony, where each camper is given an award based on their own unique strengths and areas of growth from their teen counselors. Counselors are also given awards based on performance.
