Jacob
In April 2015, Jacob entered the program at Pressley Ridge Grant Gardens. Before his arrival, he had been in several placements totaling three and a half years. Throughout his placement, Jacob presented many behavioral issues like becoming physically aggressive toward staff and peers, threatening, running out of the cottage, self-harmful behaviors, and even breaking his bedroom window. His family remained supportive and consistent to him in these times.
As his discharge date approached, Jacob began to talk to staff members about his fears of returning to his community and home after being in placements for such a long period of time. He became better able to communicate his thoughts surrounding these concerns and started to feel a sense of security in finally returning to his parents’ care.
He expressed interest in moving forward with his life and reintegrating into a public school setting, which he had avoided prior to placement. In January 2016, Jacob was successfully discharged from the program to return to the care of his parents.
