Recruitment and Certification Specialist

I joined Pressley Ridge in June 1992 as an Independent Living Specialist. I stayed with a girl in her own apartment through the Independent Living program. The schedule was 4 days on and 3 days off. Over the course of 30 years, I’ve also held the positions of Independent Living Supervisor, Treatment Coordinator, Wrap-Around Facilitator, and Recruitment and Certification Specialist.

I have stayed with Pressley Ridge because I feel our services help children and families. I like helping families learn to communicate with each other and teach them how to remain regulated and work through problems. Seeing a child realize their potential and set goals to achieve is rewarding. I currently work with families through the adoption process, and it is wonderful seeing a child get a forever family.

As an employee, it was rewarding to be voted Employee of the Year. At that time, it was narrowed down from all sites to one employee. My co-workers nominated me and that meant a lot to me to know they recognized the work I was doing with families. I enjoyed celebrating 25 years with Pressley Ridge by going to a Pirates game with other employees who have also worked with Pressley Ridge for 25 years.

I can’t pick out one memorable moment working with families because I’ve seen so many children and families meet goals, focus on completing school, and bring in additional support within their community for support. Writing this made me think of success stories with families and it makes me happy to see them accomplish goals.
