Treatment Foster Care

Treatment Foster Care

Picture
Within a traditional foster care situation, the Treatment Foster Care (TFC) model uses foster parents who are given advanced clinical and technical training and support in order to best serve the youth placed in their home.

Treatment is guided by a plan implemented by the treatment parents and consists of a set of specific and measurable treatment goals which are tailored to each individual youth’s needs and are monitored frequently.

The program involves the family or other caregivers of the youth who are in care and actively engages the family members with parenting skills and attention is given to the relationship the youth has with the family.

THE TREATMENT FOSTER CARE MODEL
Children in Foster Care
Children in our programs come from very diverse backgrounds and have a variety of reasons for not living with their own families at the moment, though our goal is always permanency or reunification. They may have a history of multiple failed foster placements, care in residential treatment programs, or they may be entering out-of-home care for the first time.

Some children exhibit patterns of running away or school truancy; they may have learning or developmental disabilities; they may have significant behavioral or emotional problems or mental health diagnoses. Some children have a history of family disruption, neglect, or abuse.

Statistics
At Pressley Ridge, children can range in age from 0–21 years, with the majority of children age 13-15, may be any race, any religion, any socioeconomic background, and may have siblings that are also in out-of-home care.

PRESSLEY RIDGE TREATMENT FOSTER CARE SERVICES
Pressley Ridge Treatment Foster Care (TFC) provides services directly to your and addresses a multitude of behavioral and emotional difficulties.

The main components of Treatment Foster Care are:
  • An ecological psychosocial assessment and treatment planning that establishes goals with the youth and family is provided.
  • Service is provided from an eco-systemic perspective and addresses youth’s functioning in all domains.
  • Service provision is action-oriented with treatment foster parents using “teaching” with youth to assist them in replacing negative behavior patterns with more adaptive behaviors.
  • Attention is given to the therapeutic alliance between treatment foster parents and the youth.
  • The program uses structured and agenda-directed sessions to monitor progress on established goals.
  • Treatment parents use the Log of Daily Events (LODES) to report on youth’s progress and staff reviews with treatment parents on a regular basis.
  • A behavior management system is established for each youth and involves a daily point system.
  • Progress on achieving permanency is evaluated and strategies developed as needed.
  • The program is trauma-focused with each youth being screened for trauma symptoms and provided with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), as appropriate.
  • Treatment foster parents are provided with support and access to on-call staff 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
