Kinship Care is caring for the child of a relative or close family friend.

Families often step up to care for the child outside of system involvement and without support. Pressley Ridge can help you get the financial and emotional support you need by assisting you with navigating inside the system required to become a licensed Kinship Caregiver.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working with Child Services

Does the child need to have Child Services involvement?

  • Yes. To receive supports, Child Services requires kinship homes to be licensed similar to foster care.
  • Pressley Ridge will help you navigate the system and advocate for your family.

What Will I Need to Do?

  • Meet with Pressley Ridge staff in your home to complete the Home Study certification process required by the state.
  • Complete state-required training. Pressley Ridge offers in-person, on-line, and self-study resources to fit your schedule.

What Happens After I’m Licensed?

  • You’ll continue caring for the child in your home.
  • Pressley Ridge will help keep your certification up to date.
  • Pressley Ridge staff will visit you and the child to offer support and help with any needs.
